Two separate snatching incidents shocked residents of Zirakpur and Balongi over the past three days, police records confirm. In the first case, a 37‑year‑old woman named Manju, who lives in Shiva Enclave Society near Joshi Farm, had a gold chain snatched from her by an unidentified man on a bike. The theft occurred in broad daylight, and the assailant fled the scene immediately, leaving Manju without her jewelry.

Just two days later, a cook originally from Kushinagar in Uttar Pradesh became the second victim. While riding a bicycle, she was approached by two individuals on a motorbike who quickly grabbed her mobile phone and sped away. The incident took place on a main road in Balongi, a locality that has seen a rise in such crimes in recent months.

Both incidents highlight a disturbing trend of opportunistic thefts targeting women in the district. The victims were each engaged in everyday activities when the assaults unfolded, underscoring how vulnerable residents can be in public spaces. While the exact motives of the perpetrators remain unclear, the swift nature of the attacks suggests a coordinated effort to exploit moments of distraction.

Local residents have expressed concern over the frequency of such snatching cases. Although no arrests have been reported yet, the incidents have prompted community members to discuss safety measures and the need for heightened awareness while moving through neighbourhoods.

Authorities have logged the complaints and are treating the cases as theft investigations. The incidents are part of a broader pattern of crime that has been noted across the region, prompting discussions on improving public security and surveillance in busy market areas and residential streets.

The two robberies, occurring within a short span of time, serve as a reminder of the importance of vigilance. Residents are advised to stay alert, especially in areas with high foot traffic and limited lighting during evening hours. The incidents also reinforce the need for community cooperation in reporting suspicious activities to the police promptly.
