Panchkula is set to face the monsoon within the next fortnight, prompting HSVP to launch tenders worth ₹8 crore for critical drainage improvements.

The tender package earmarks ₹7.16 crore for the rehabilitation of a 2100‑mm storm water drain that runs from Little Flower School up to Sector 14 and the road that separates Sectors 14 and 12A. An additional ₹1.04 crore will cover the laying of sewer lines, the construction of manholes and road works near the community centre in Sector 6.

A 2100‑mm diameter storm water drain is designed to carry large volumes of rainwater across the city. Its rehabilitation aims to restore flow capacity that may have been compromised over time.

The sewer line component will be laid to serve residential and commercial zones, while the new manholes will provide access for maintenance and reduce the risk of blockages. The road construction near the community centre in Sector 6 will complement the drainage works by improving surface water runoff.

Panchkula, a municipal area within the Chandigarh capital region, comprises several sectors that host residential colonies, commercial establishments and public facilities. The storm water drain traverses multiple sectors, linking them through a continuous channel that helps evacuate water during heavy spells.

The rehabilitation work will involve restoring the structural integrity of the existing channel, clearing obstructions and upgrading the lining to ensure efficient water flow. The sewer line will be installed to serve residential and commercial zones, and the manholes will enable routine maintenance. Road works near the community centre will improve surface water runoff and facilitate smoother traffic flow during the rainy season.

HSVP’s decision to float the tenders comes as the region prepares for a monsoon that is expected to bring substantial rainfall to the Chandigarh capital area. With the monsoon expected to arrive in about two weeks, the timing of the tender is intended to accelerate works before the first heavy downpours.

Local civic bodies have welcomed the initiative, emphasizing that timely completion of the drainage upgrades will enhance flood resilience and improve quality of life for residents across the affected sectors.
