Mohali SSP Dismisses Senior Constable After Snatching Case
Mohali’s senior superintendent of police has dismissed a senior constable booked in a snatching case involving gold chains, a laptop, mobile phones and a Mahindra Thar.
Mohali’s senior superintendent of police has dismissed a senior constable who was booked in connection with a snatching case that involved the theft of two gold chains, a laptop, three mobile phones and the keys of a Mahindra Thar.
The investigation, launched after the alleged snatching was reported, quickly identified three individuals – Jivandeep, Jagroop Singh and Kundan Lal – as the suspects. During the course of the inquiry, police took Jivandeep into custody along with his two companions.
Recovered from the suspects’ possession were two iPhones, a laptop and a Maruti Swift car, items that matched the description of the stolen property. The recovery underscored the seriousness of the offence and highlighted the role of coordinated police work in linking the recovered goods to the alleged crime.
The senior constable, whose name has not been disclosed in the official report, had been assigned to the unit handling the case. After the arrests, the SSP reviewed the matter and decided to terminate the constable’s service, citing procedural irregularities and a breach of trust that compromised the investigation.
This dismissal marks a rare instance in which a senior officer has been removed from duty following a high‑profile theft case in the region. While the constable’s legal fate will be determined through the criminal process, the SSP’s action sends a clear message about accountability within the police force.
Incidents of snatching and theft have been reported intermittently across Mohali and neighboring districts, often involving valuable electronics and vehicles. Authorities have repeatedly emphasized the need for vigilance and swift action to recover stolen items and hold perpetrators responsible.
The case also brings attention to the broader challenges faced by law enforcement in balancing investigative rigor with administrative integrity. The SSP’s decision to dismiss the constable reflects an effort to uphold disciplinary standards while the criminal proceedings continue against the accused.
As the legal process unfolds, the recovered laptop, mobile phones and the Maruti Swift are expected to be returned to their rightful owners, concluding the material aspect of the investigation. The dismissal of the senior constable remains a notable development, illustrating the SSP’s commitment to maintaining discipline within the police ranks.
