The Ludhiana Consumer Commission ordered HDFC Bank to unfreeze a resident’s bank account that had been frozen for nearly three years.

The account was locked after a transaction of ₹2,038 that was alleged to be linked to fraud, according to the commission’s directive.

Consumer commissions address grievances against financial institutions and can direct banks to release frozen accounts when they deem the freeze unjustified.

HDFC Bank, one of the country’s largest private sector banks, was instructed to restore full access to the account without delay.

The order highlights the consumer protection mechanism that enables individuals to challenge banking decisions they consider unfair.
