Hooda targets Saini government over paddy, bajra procurement delay

Former Haryana chief minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda addressed public gatherings in Rohtak’s Nandal, Chiri, Katwara, Khidwali, Ghuskani, Jindran and Titauli villages, criticising the Saini government for delaying procurement of paddy and bajra.

He said the Bharatiya Janata Party had come to power by promising farmers a price of ₹3,100 per quintal for paddy, and alleged that the present administration has not fulfilled that promise, causing a delay in procurement, which he said is being observed by local observers.

Hooda spoke at meetings held in the seven villages of Rohtak district, urging the government to honour the promised price and expedite the procurement process.

Villages where Hooda addressed crowds

The gatherings were held during Hooda’s recent visit to the region, where he addressed local farmers and party supporters.

He highlighted that the promised price of ₹3,100 per quintal was meant to ensure farmers received a fair return for their produce.

Hooda noted that the delay in procurement has been observed by farmers, who expect timely payment after the crop is sold.

Procurement context

Procurement in Haryana involves the state’s procurement agencies purchasing farmers’ produce at the rates announced for the season, a process intended to ensure timely payment and food security.

According to Hooda, the delay undermines farmer confidence, as the promised price of ₹3,100 per quintal for paddy was meant to guarantee a stable income.

He linked the delay to the discrepancy between the BJP’s election pledge and the current government’s actions, saying the promise was made when the party assumed power.

The remarks were reported by Hindustan Times in an article titled Hooda targets Saini govt over paddy, bajra procurement delay, and the delay has drawn attention from opposition leaders who argue that the promised price must be honored promptly.

The article highlights the paddy procurement delay as a key issue raised by Hooda.

Hooda emphasized that the government must meet the promised price without further postponement, stating that timely procurement is essential for farmers’ livelihoods.
