Chargesheet filed against Yasin Malik in 1990 Sarla Bhat rape, murder case

Jammu and Kashmir Police’s Special Investigation Agency has filed a 737‑page chargesheet in the TADA court in Srinagar, naming jailed JKLF chief Yasin Malik as the mastermind of the 1990 rape and murder of Kashmiri Pandit nurse Sarla Bhat.

The case, which shocked the region decades ago, involved the brutal killing of Sarla Bhat, a nurse from the Kashmiri Pandit community, and has remained a focal point of legal and political discourse in Jammu and Kashmir.

The chargesheet, submitted by the J&K Police’s SIA, outlines the alleged involvement of Malik and other suspects in the planning and execution of the crime, marking a significant step in the long‑standing investigation.

The TADA court, a special court established under the Terrorism and Disruption (Prevention) Act, will now hear the charges as the investigation proceeds.
