Police in Chandigarh announced the dismantling of an arms smuggling module after apprehending four individuals, one of whom is an Afghan national. The operation resulted in the recovery of a mixed cache of handguns and ammunition, underscoring the continued threat of illegal weapon trafficking in the region.

Recovered weapons included a .30 bore Beretta pistol, four 9mm Glock pistols and three additional .30 bore handguns, together with seven live cartridges. The assortment indicated a well‑stocked supply intended for distribution.

Alongside the firearms, investigators seized a scooter that the suspects had used to transport the contraband. The vehicle was impounded as part of the evidence collection.

The arrests followed a coordinated investigation that traced the movement of the weapons to the streets of Chandigarh. Police said the case reflects a broader effort to curb the flow of illicit arms.

The presence of an Afghan national among those taken into custody points to the cross‑border nature of the smuggling network. Details about the other three suspects have not been released.

The seizure comes at a time when law enforcement agencies in the region are intensifying patrols and intelligence gathering to address concerns about illegal weapon circulation. The operation demonstrates the continued focus on tackling unlawful arms trade.
